PlayStation VR could support PC someday, exec says
OREANDA-NEWS. March 29, 2016. It's possible that someday the PlayStation 4 virtual-reality headset PlayStation VR will support PC. That's according to Sony executive Masayasu Ito, who told Japanese newspaperNikkei recently that, because the PS4 runs on a PC-like architecture, it may be possible one day for PlayStation VR to run on a PC.
"Since PlayStation 4 shares a lot of its internals with PCs, the possibility is there," Ito said, as translated by Segmentnext.
This is by no means confirmation that the PlayStation VR will support the PC, but Ito previously talked about a more powerful PlayStation 4, and now it looks like that's happening.
Sony wouldn't be alone in expanding VR's reach beyond games, as Oculus has stressed time and again that VR has the potential to impact and disrupt many other industries outside of games.
PlayStation VR launches in October, priced at \\$400. The device requires a PlayStation Camera (sold separately) and Move controllers, though not required, can also be used for some games. Preorders for the \\$500 Launch Bundle (containing the headset, a Camera, two Move controllers, and a multigame disc) opened last week, while preorders for the standalone device start tomorrow, March 29.
