IRU proposes Eurasian Economic Union to restore TIR on the agenda
OREANDA-NEWS. In talks with Mukay Kadyrkulov, newly appointed Minister for Customs Cooperation, and Member of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Dmitry Cheltsov, who leads IRU’s work in Eurasia, proposed to reactivate discussions on TIR usage in the Customs Union that integrates the Republics of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Federation.
The new minister was briefed on TIR’s geographical expansion in Eurasia and worldwide, as well as the successful eTIR pilot between Iran and Turkey. He was also briefed on the implementation of electronic TIR risk management tools, SafeTIR, Real Time Safe TIR, TIR-EPD and new IRU products such as TIR+, in some of the Eurasian Economic Union Member States.
In referring to the major role played by the TIR Convention in road transport and transit Mr Kadyrkulov expressed his full support for IRU’s work in introducing a seamless, paperless TIR system.
Currently 45 border crossings into Russia accept the use of TIR canets.
