OREANDA-NEWS. Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., a leading global provider of advanced optical solutions will showcase its extended temperature 25GBASE-LR in SFP28 transceiver for 25 Gb/s applications.

The module, based on the SFP+ form factor, will enable a new generation of high-density 25 Gb/s Ethernet applications for connectivity in data centers and enterprise, and a conventional and cost-effective upgrade path for enterprises deploying 10 Gb/s Ethernet links today. The SFP28 module will also support CPRI front end wireless applications.

Sumitomo Electric SEP6100LR 25 Gb/s SFP28 LR is based on the SFP+ MSA form factor. The transceiver operates at extended case temperature of -5 to 85 deg. C over a link length of 10 km and exhibits a typical power consumption of 1.0 W at 85 deg. C. "Deploying products at 25 Gb/s provides a more efficient use of hardware and improved density for emerging 25 G servers. This rate also offers 2.5 times the bandwidth of a 10 Gb/s port and provides a more logical upgrade path to 100 G switches," said John Wyatt, President of Sumitomo Electric Device Innovations, USA.

Sumitomo Electric is planning to sample the 25 Gb/s SFP28-LR in mid-2016.
