OREANDA-NEWS. Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that the company has received an order for a “Next-Generation Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition system (SCADA) / Energy Management System (EMS)” for Sub Transmission Control Centers *1and Distribution Control Centers *2 from Tokyo Electric Power Company, Inc. (TEPCO). The SCADA/EMS will provide comprehensive monitoring and control, and constantly monitor power transmission and distribution (T&D) facilities, including power lines and substations. It will be delivered to TEPCO in stages, starting in 2018.

Currently, individual Local Transmission and Distribution Control Centers are equipped with their own SCADA/EMS. While maintaining the same level of operating quality, the new SCADA/EMS will integrate the capability to monitor and control the operations of 10 Sub Transmission Control Centers and 56 Distribution Control Centers into the data centers, encompassing both transmission and distribution. It will provide centralized management of power back-up, now performed at individual sites, and help to reduce maintenance costs. The system is compliant with international standards and will provide high interoperability with external systems, allowing data exchanges between organizations and systems.

Drawing on its rich resources and expertise, Toshiba will provide high added value SCADA/EMS that improve the efficiency of the T&D operations that are a core business of TEPCO. Toshiba will continue to cooperate with TEPCO in overseas markets in the roll out of systems compliant with international standards.
