Siemens and E.ON Metering cooperate on intelligent metering systems
OREANDA-NEWS. March 21, 2016. With the establishment of laws governing the digitalization of the energy transition and the operation of metering points, the tasks that network and metering point operators will have to carry out for the pending rollout of intelligent metering systems in Germany are becoming increasingly concrete. Starting in 2017, large numbers of meters will have to be replaced, processes and systems converted, and numerous complex regulatory requirements implemented and complied with. In order to offer their expertise in the field of intelligent metering to as broad a customer base as possible, E.ON and Siemens have entered into a sales collaboration.
The application platform EnergyIP from Siemens will be a key technical component of this offering. EnergyIP is already making it possible for E.ON network operators to optimally integrate their smart meter infrastructure in IT systems, to use the supplied metering data for network operation, and to make that data available for use in billing and for visualization. In the future, it will be possible for metering data to be used for smart market applications such as variable rates or the control of feed-in systems.
“Siemens and E.ON Metering complement each other perfectly in this collaboration. With implementation of our EnergyIP smart grid application platform, E.ON Metering is ideally prepared for future rollout scenarios as a metering point operator and when it comes to smart meter gateway administration. In turn, we are expanding our market penetration, since E.ON Metering will offer our gateway administration and meter data management solutions that we have implemented for the E.ON network operators as part of cooperation among smaller public utility companies,” says Ute Redecker, head of the Siemens Digital Grid Business Unit in Germany.
“With Siemens, we have a strong, reliable, and technically skilled partner at our side. Thanks to implementation of EnergyIP, we are expanding our proven, forward-looking portfolio of products and services to include modular and turnkey offerings. In addition, E.ON Metering has extensive expertise in the operation of metering points because it has already integrated the most smart meters into Germany’s power grid. By combining our extensive experience and by integrating EnergyIP into our systems, we will be able to offer our customers the best possible advice and support with regard to the smart meter rollout,” said Paul-Vincent Abs, Managing Director of E.ON Metering GmbH.
