Itron First to Achieve G3-PLC Certification for Linky Smart Meter
OREANDA-NEWS. Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), a world-leading technology and services company dedicated to the resourceful use of energy and water, announced today that it is the first company to achieve G3-PLC certification for its Linky smart meters, receiving certification for its single-phase meters. G3-PLC certification verifies the performance, conformance and interoperability of Linky smart meters that use G3 Power Line Carrier (PLC) communications technology. The meters are an important part of ERDF's (?lectricit? R?seau Distribution France) Linky smart meter program.
Certification testing was performed by Laboratoire des Applications Num?riques, a third-party testing laboratory selected by the G3 PLC Alliance. The tests validate the interoperability of Itron's Linky meter as well as its conformance to the G3-PLC protocol. Additional tests confirmed the meter's performance, including communications robustness against various types of interference.
"Itron is proud to be the first company to achieve G3-PLC certification of our Linky smart meter. This certification is a testament to Itron's commitment to quality and a significant milestone for the second phase of the Linky smart grid program," said Mark de Vere White, president of Itron's Electricity business line. "Smart grid technology will play an important role in helping ERDF drive increased energy efficiency, deliver more efficient service to its customers, improve distribution operations and manage integration of renewables. With the certification of our Linky G3 meter, Itron is prepared to support ERDF in realizing this vision as it rolls out approximately 35 million smart meters."
