OREANDA-NEWS. Maria Miller, MP for Basingstoke, has been welcomed to our Business Energy offices in Basingstoke to mark National Apprenticeship Week.

Maria Miller MP met with apprentices Elise Albinson and Rachel Bennet, who are studying for Business Admin level 2 qualifications with SSE Business Energy. The apprentices attend Basingstoke College of Technology (BCOT) for the academic element of the scheme spending the rest of their time working in different teams within Business Energy.

Once their apprenticeships are complete in November 2016, they’ll attend a graduation ceremony at Guildford Cathedral and will be offered a full time permanent position within Business Energy at SSE where they will continue to support SSE’s business customers.

Maria Miller MP, an advocate for apprenticeship schemes said: “It was great to meet with SSE apprentices at SSE Business Energy in Basingstoke, and see their enthusiasm for their studies. SSE offers their apprentices excellent training, benefits and the chance of a valuable career.”

Apprentice Bethany Herbert, who is also studying for the qualification with SSE Business Energy said: “I’ve learnt so much already during my time with Business Energy at SSE, and I’ve been lucky enough to receive lots of help and support. The best thing about working here is the people, everyone is so friendly.”

Since 2007, more than 800 apprentices have been hired by SSE – a total training investment of 64m pounds or 80,000 pounds per recruit. This year alone SSE will recruit an intake of 183 apprentices and trainee engineers across the UK.

Following the success of these recent apprentices in Basingstoke, SSE Business Energy has been working with BCOT to recruit more who will be joining SSE in September this year.
