OREANDA-NEWS. In 2015, the volume of ferrous scrap sold by META Groups (part of ChelPipe Group) amounted to 1,291 thous. tons, which is 4% less versus 2014 (1,345 thous. tons). 718 thous. tons here is self-collected scrap, 573 thous. tons - direct delivery scrap. The reduced sales volume is related to the general trend of the shrinking scrap market (-7% by 2014). With this in view, the demand for steel scrap of the Pervouralsk Pipe plant (part of ChelPipe Group) increased by +11% or 90 thous. tons due to the higher production volume of seamless pipes, was accommodated by META in full.

The best growth figures in 2015 were shown by META-Perm and Samaravtormet, whose ferrous scrap sales volumes increased by 17% and 3% respectively versus same time previous year.

“2015 proved to be difficult for the RF metallurgy sector. Scrap recyclers had to face the down-trend in the demand for feedstock: The visible domestic consumption of steel scrap went down by -8%; the export shipments reduced by -3%. As a result, in 2015, the scrap collection amounted to 24.8 mln. tons only versus 26.7 mln. tons a year before (-1.9 mln. tons). Despite the reduced sales figures, I believe that META made a significant step forward over the last year: arrangements were made to cut costs; some business processes were improved. We kept on increasing the sales volumes of high-margin products, e.g., the sales of non-ferrous scrap amounted to 14 thous. tons last year. This way, META succeeded in adapting to the new market reality, with focus on the efficiency enhancement. In 2016, we will go the extra mile”, said Andrey Pavlov, General Director, META Group.

META Group was founded in 2004, and today it is among the Top-3 domestic companies engaged in scrap recycling business. As of year-end 2015, its share in the RF market is 6.6%.  The strategic goal of the established company has been accommodation of the needs of ChelPipe Group’s pipe division with quality metallurgic feedstock.

The main vectors of META’s activity are collection, processing and selling of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap on domestic and foreign markets. META has over 60 collection sites in 11 Russian regions, where it is represented by the companies: Meta-Yekaterinburg, META-Perm, Meta-Chelyabinsk. Samaravtormet, Vtorchermet.
