OREANDA-NEWS. March 18, 2016. Research predicts that by the year 2020, the European Union needs an additional half a million IT workers. The IT sector in Estonia and Tartu is also looking for additional workforce. On 18 March, a career day is organised at the Institute of Computer Science (?likooli 17) where the number of IT enterprises who will introduce their internship and career options is bigger than ever.

Mari Krusten, Marketing and Communication Specialist at UT Institute of Computer Science, said that the record number of participating IT companies shows how highly employers value the broad-based and practical IT education offered at UT.

“IT labour market mainly needs highly qualified professionals and since our studies is closely related to practical training in IT companies, the IT enterprises are aware of the quality of studies at UT and also the skills and knowledge of students—their potential interns or employees. UT graduates with an IT education guide the development of the IT sector in Estonia and the rest of the world—this proves that the entrepreneurial ability and competence of the students and graduates of the Institute of Computer Science are the driving force of the IT sector.”

Among the 21 IT enterprises who will introduce themselves at the career day of the Institute of Computer Science are Nortal, Fortumo O?, ZeroTurnaround, Pipedrive, TransferWise, Reach-U, Playtech Estonia, Mooncascade and Cybernetica AS. AIESEC will participate for the first time to introduce internship options abroad.

Krusten added that UT Institute of Computer Science is also represented as an employer, because one potential career option for students is to continue work with a research group at the institute.

Similarly to previous years, the event is organised as a fair, where students have a great opportunity to check out the displays in the foyer of the Paabel building and make direct contact with representatives of the enterprises. At the same time, presentations by enterprises take place, where each enterprise has the chance to give a 10 minute introduction.

In addition, students have the chance to see the internet of things lab, opened last week, and the meeting rooms designed and furnished by IT enterprises.
