OREANDA-NEWS. March 17, 2016. In the context of his two-day visit to Brussels, Prime Minister Pavel Filip held a meeting with the deputy chairman of the European Commission, Energy Union Commissioner.

The officials tackled Moldova’s integration on the energy market and ways to develop its legal framework, gas and electricity connections with the EU, as well as the implementation status of the assumed commitments included on the agenda of the association agreement in this field. 

The sides highlighted the need to consolidate cooperation in the energy security field and diversify routes and supply sources. They have also discussed, in particular, subjects related to the transposition of the 3rd energy package, enlargement of Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline project and the consolidation of the independence of Moldova’s National Agency for Energy Regulation.

Filip praised the efforts European Commission and its deputy chairman are taking to consolidate the European energy security. He emphasized initiative to create a cooperation framework for Central and South-Eastern Europe (CESEC group), which Moldova is part of.

The officials tackled concrete ways to back Moldova’s efforts to modernize its energy sector and integrate into the regional system.
