Subaru's next-generation Impreza is headed for the Big Apple
OREANDA-NEWS. March 14, 2016. In news that should shock few car fans, Subaru has let slip that its next-generation Impreza will be revealed at the New York Auto Show later this month.
The compact range, best known for its all-wheel-drive toughness and being the platform upon which the WRX and XV Crosstrek models are based, will ride atop an all-new architecture, dubbed the Subaru Global Platform. These new bones, which are designed to accommodate both traditional internal combustion and electrified powertrains, will form the basis for all future Subaru products. The company maintains the new chassis is significantly stiffer than before (70 to 100 percent!), and it also has a lower center of gravity, which should improve handling.
Subaru has also hinted that it is working on some level of autonomous technology for future vehicles -- to this point, it has remained largely mum on the subject.
It wouldn't be fair to infer much about the 2017 Impreza's styling from the teaser image shown here, as it reveals little more than the headlamp design and some shadowy portions of the grille and lower fascia. It's not clear even clear whether Subaru plans to show the model in five-door hatchback or sedan form (or both) in New York, although both body styles have been confirmed for the next-generation model.
Thankfully, we won't have to wait very long to find out more: All will be revealed at the Japanese automaker's press conference on March 23.
