SSE and Wet Wet Wet team up to trial new technology at The SSE Hydro
OREANDA-NEWS. March 14, 2016. SSE is supporting the Scottish dates of Wet Wet Wet’s ‘The Big Picture Tour’ that comes to The SSE Hydro.
To celebrate the performance in Glasgow SSE has teamed up with the band to create extra special experiences at their homecoming gig.
For the first time in their touring history the band will select one lucky fan to join them onstage during their performance for the ultimate selfie against the backdrop of a sold out The SSE Hydro.
Fans wishing they were lucky will need to download the free SSE Presents app from Apple App Store or the Google Play Store to be in with a chance of winning this once in a lifetime experience. Fans who have downloaded the app will be sent a special notification when they enter the venue on Saturday night and asked to input their details for a chance to win.
Those fans who are not selected to go on stage needn’t shed a tear however, as they will still have the opportunity to be part of the show. Audience members who have downloaded the app will see their phone light up in brilliant colours to create a stunning visual display in The SSE Hydro arena bowl during one of Wet Wet Wet’s iconic songs, for a UK live music first.
Notifications are sent to the attendees phones via a new technology called LISNR. This uses sound tones to push a message to your phone. The technology is unique as it doesn’t require wi-fi or a phone signal in order to receive them, all you need to do is be inside The SSE Hydro.
LISNR has already been used in Europe and the US but SSE is trialling it for the first time in the UK, previously at SSE Presents The Who at The SSE Arena, Wembley in February and now at The SSE Hydro.
Through the app fans will also receive access to exclusive discounts on band merchandise and food and drink as well as exclusive content such as set lists, band images and screensavers sent to their phone throughout the evening.
Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti Pellow said: “We are so looking forward to returning to our hometown of Glasgow and play at The SSE Hydro again, it’s going to be a really special gig with a number of surprises in store including the chance for one fan to come and get their picture taken onstage with us”.
Drummer Tommy Cunningham added: “We put a lot of work into our show to make sure that everything sounds and looks perfect. We’ve partnered with SSE to do something different at the Hydro where the audience can help us light up the whole venue taking the meaning of The Big Picture tour one step further!”
Colin Banks, Head of Sponsorship and Reward at SSE, said: “All of us here at SSE are committed to doing more for our customers and that extends to the amazing audiences that attend the SSE Hydro. We want to give them the best possible entertainment experiences and through working with the band on our SSE presents app we will be able to provide unique and unforgettable ones for do that on a very special night for thousands of Scottish music fans.”
