OREANDA-NEWS. Power management company Eaton has launched a new range of hydraulic hoses for the European railway industry to  meet the new European fire safety standard EN45545-2, as well as the common EN854 (2TE) and EN857 (1SC/2SC) standards.

Effective March 2016, the EN45545-2 standard is expected to replace the current national fire safety standards enforced within the European Union (NF F16-101, BS 6853, DIN 5510 and UNI CEI 11170). Typical applications include for instance on-board hydraulic lines, air brakes, sanding lines and door systems.

Eaton offers a variety of EN45545-2 certified hoses, ranging from wire and textile braided hoses to spiral and air-conditioning hoses (with fire sleeve only).

“To assure interoperability of rolling stock across Europe, a cross-border EN45545-2 fire safety standard was defined to replace the different national standards that are in place, in particular for France, the UK, Germany and Italy,” explains Dimitar Atanasov, product marketing manager, Eaton. Whereas some manufacturers only add fire sleeve, Eaton has qualified most of its hoses  to help its customers save on costs and keep the space-need minimum for the routing of the hose.

The Eaton Railway Hose products also meet the R22/HL3 and R23/HL3 highest requirements for our 1SN, 2SN hose types. The Railway series of hoses are available with R22/HL2 and R23/HL3 in 1SC, 2SC and 2TE hose types.  The following railway hoses  are expected to be available on the market in the future: the 2SC with -20/-24/-32 as options also certified against the R22/HL3 and R23/HL3 standards.

Each hose type has been independently tested according to ISO4589-2 (oxygen index), ISO5659-2 (smoke density) and NF X 70-100-1 and -2 (smoke toxicity). Typical operating temperatures range from -40°C to +125°C.

The EC045 2TE hose also meets the EN854 standard and is available in sizes -3 to -16, with respective working pressure (WP) ratings of 80-40 bar and a 4-to-1 burst to WP ratio. In addition, this hose is available for use with Eaton’s On the Cover hose fittings.
The EC112 (1SC) and EC212 (2SC) hoses also meet the EN857 standard and are available in sizes -4 to -16, with working pressure ratings of 225-88 bar (1SC) and 400-165 bar (2SC), both with a 4-to-1 burst to working pressure ratio. Sizes -20/-24/-32 for the 2SC hose type are available on request.
These hoses feature a tighter bend radius, which helps offer more flexibility for the application. Both EC112 (1SC) and EC212 (2SC) hoses  could be used with Eaton’s non-skive one-piece Through the Cover (TTC) series hose fittings for easy assembly.
