Idemitsu to Open Its First Commercial Hydrogen Station
Idemitsu had operated the Narita Hydrogen Station for experimental research since February 2011 as an experimental research project in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and others. In this operation, Idemitsu had supplied hydrogen for fuel-cell vehicles used in transportation between the airport and central Tokyo and other points for developing our knowledge regarding hydrogen utilization and technical aspects of hydrogen supply.
Since September 2015, Idemitsu has built key facilities for establishing commercial hydrogen-supply facilities after being awarded a subsidy from METI´s subsidy program for construction of new hydrogen-supply facilities for fuel-cell vehicles and the construction has finished at this time.
In the future, Idemitsu will put to use the knowledge it has built up concerning operation of this stations to promote the use of fuel-cell vehicles by supplying hydrogen to ordinary vehicles and to contribute to the realization of a hydrogen-powered society, together with further testing and buildup of knowledge regarding business and technical aspects of hydrogen supply.
The initial sale price of hydrogen will be 1,100 yen/kg (not including consumption tax), based on factors including the Japanese government’s Strategic Road Map for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells and deliberations in the Council for a Strategy for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells.
