OREANDA-NEWS. Aeroflot PJSC (Moscow Exchange ticker: AFLT) today announces operating results for Aeroflot Group («the Group») and Aeroflot — Russian Airlines («the Company») for January 2016.

January 2016 Operating Highlights

In January 2016, Aeroflot Group passenger traffic was 3.0 million, up 11.6% year-on-year. Aeroflot airline’s passenger traffic was 2.0 million, a year-on-year increase of 10.7%.

Group and Company RPKs increased by 11.6% and 9.4% year-on-year, respectively. ASKs rose by 9.3% year-on-year for Aeroflot Group and by 8.5% for Aeroflot airline.

On domestic routes, Group traffic and RPKs grew by 19.1% and 13.1% year-on-year, respectively. Company traffic and RPKs on domestic routes were up 18.5% and 14.3% year-on-year, respectively. This was mainly attributable to increased demand for domestic flights, growth of in-country tourism and a combined with a corresponding 8.1% year-on-year increase in ASKs for the Group and 7.7% increase for the Company. The rise in ASKs was due in part to increased flight frequencies on high-demand routes. The low-cost carrier Pobeda made a significant contribution to Group domestic traffic growth.

On international routes, Group traffic rose 2.7% year-on-year while Group RPKs were up 10.6% year-on-year. ASKs for the period increased 10.1% year-on-year. Passenger traffic on Aeroflot airline international flights increased 4.6% and RPKs increased by 7.1%. International traffic increased despite the suspension of flights to destinations in Ukraine and Egypt and the suspension of charter flights to Turkey. International traffic growth was supported by a continued decline in competition as several foreign carriers reduced flight frequencies to Russia, Aeroflot airline’s higher international transit traffic through its Sheremetyevo hub and Transaero’s exit from the market.

As a result of the factors discussed above, the passenger load factor increased by 1.6 percentage points (p.p.) year-on-year to 74.1% for the Group and by 0.6 p.p. year-on-year to 74.0% for the Company.
