Rockwell Collins announces Engineer of the Year recipients
OREANDA-NEWS. February 26, 2016. Three employees have been selected as 2015 Corporate Engineers of the Year and were recognized for demonstrating outstanding technical creativity and innovation during the annual Engineering Breakfast on Monday, Feb. 22.
Doug R. Johnson, a principal electrical engineer in Commercial Systems; Charles “Cap” Popeck, a Technical Fellow in Government Systems; and Prashant Srivastava, a senior software engineer in International and Service Solutions, were selected for achievements that resulted in significant impact to Rockwell Collins and the engineering profession.
Johnson, who has been with Rockwell Collins for nearly 25 years, was a key contributor and hardware architect for the Boeing 777X Flight Control Module (FCM). He leveraged existing Primary Flight Control Computer (PFCC) architecture to create the enhanced processing platform. Because of his efforts, our company has projected 777X flight control content sales of about \\$240 million over the first 12 years of service. This was Rockwell Collins’ first primary flight control product position with Boeing.
Popeck combined 30 years of military Global Positioning System (GPS) expertise, a respected relationship with the U.S. Air Force, and effective collaboration with his colleagues in Navigation Products Engineering, to architect and demonstrate M-code capability for modernized GPS products. New M-code receivers bring increased security and assurance in contested environments. Because of his efforts, Government Systems’ Navigation Products realized double-digit sales growth in fiscal year 2015.
Srivastava, who works in the India Design Center in Hyderabad, used his ingenuity and technical skill to design our first third-party development kit for the ARINC 661 product. ARINC 661 standardizes communication between a cockpit display system and user applications for avionics functionality. He also developed a light optimized version of the Crew Alerting System, mimicking avionics implementation with an estimated one-tenth of the overall lifecycle cost. Additionally, he is a key contributor to software architecture prototyping for cargo applications. Srivastava is the first India Design Center engineer to receive a corporate Engineer of the Year award.
