Varian Medical Systems to Showcase X-ray Imaging Components at ECR Annual Meeting
OREANDA-NEWS. Varian Medical Systems (NYSE: VAR) is today announcing it is showcasing a wide range of X-ray imaging solutions that bundle components and software to improve image quality, reduce costs, and enable greater patient throughput for manufacturers of mammography, fluoroscopy, angiography, cardiology and cone-beam CT imaging systems. These solutions, along with offerings from recent acquisitions Claymount and MeVis, will be on display at the annual European Congress of Radiology (ECR) meeting in Vienna, Austria, from March 2-6.
"This year's exhibit shows our commitment to work closely with our customers to continuously develop solutions with world-class technology and components to enable them to compete in the ever-changing imaging marketplace," said Carl LaCasce, vice president of sales and marketing for Varian Imaging Components. "As the industry moves from analog to digital, we can offer our customers a full imaging chain that provides them with an expedited path to new product development for the global market."
Varian's exhibit this year centers on carefully engineered X-ray tubes, flat-panel digital image detectors, and image processing software products, including:
- Cardinal CT Tube – The new Cardinal CT tube is being designed into new CT equipment and is also a direct replacement for the Stargate/CTR-2150 tube. The Cardinal has a high heat capacity with excellent image quality and throughput allowing for quicker imaging, which translates into cost savings for medical facilities.
- 4336W and 2530W Wireless Detectors – The lightweight, cassette sized, portable 43cm x 36cm detector is optimized for dose efficiency, very low electronic noise, and consistently high wireless transmission rates. The space efficient 25cm x 30cm portable radiographic panel offers special imaging modes for imaging extremities and is compatible for neonatal procedures as well as mid-size radiographic applications such as dental Cone Beam CT (CBCT) and Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) procedures.
"As the world's largest independent supplier of X-ray tubes and digital detectors, we will continue to partner with our customers to develop new digital technology that will help them to become world-class suppliers and extend the use of X-ray imaging systems," said LaCasce.
Claymount and MeVis
Varian recently acquired Claymount, a leading supplier of high-voltage connectors, ionization chambers and solid state automatic exposure control systems for controlling dose during medical X-ray imaging. Claymount also supplies buckies for digital radiography equipment, mammography paddles, X-ray collimators, and high-voltage generators for powering radiography equipment. The Claymount acquisition expands Varian's line of imaging components and subsystems to enable customers to get products to market faster and more cost efficiently. Claymount products will be on display both in Varian's booth and a separate Claymount booth (Hall X5, Booth 18).
Varian is in the process of completing the acquisition of German-based MeVis Medical Solutions, which will add image processing software and services for cancer screening to the Varian family of products. MeVis develops innovative software for the analysis and processing of image data for screening breast cancer as well as lung, liver, prostate, and colon cancer. MeVis software for breast cancer screening has been sold to some 10,000 clinics around the world. MeVis products will be on display in Varian's booth (Hall X2, Booth 315).
