Sumitomo Corporation: "SELVA Terrace” chosen as name of commercial facility in Sendai Izumi-Chuo Station Area Block 78 Project
OREANDA-NEWS. Sumitomo Corporation (president: Kuniharu Nakamura; head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo) and Sumisho Urban Kaihatsu Co., Ltd. (president: Masaaki Kokubo; head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo), have been engaged in commercial development in Izumi Ward in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture as part of the Sendai Izumi-Chuo Station Area Block 78 Project (Izumi Chuo 1-6, Izumi-ku, Sendai) scheduled to open for business in autumn 2016, and are pleased to announce that “SELVA Terrace” has been chosen as the name of the facility.
Also in front of Izumi-Chuo Station are SELVA (owned by Sumitomo Corporation, operated by Sumisho Urban Kaihatsu), which opened for business in 1999, and the Tohoku region’s first Ario (owned by Sumitomo Corporation and Sento Planning, operated by Ito Yokado Corporation), which underwent a major refurbishing by Ito Yokado in 2013. In 2014 the two facilities were connected by a skywalk to facilitate pedestrian traffic as part of the Sumitomo Corporation Group’s efforts to help develop the area in front of Izumi-Chuo Station.
The Sumitomo Corporation Group believes that commercial facilities should be “lifestyle hubs” that help people enjoy fulfilling lives. In the SELVA Terrace opening this autumn, the Group will construct a terrace in the area facing the station front and line it with outwardly facing stores, aiming to create a space open to the street that blends into the area. Combining the SELVA Terrace with the existing SELVA to establish a focal point for the local community, the Group will undertake urban planning-style commercial development by enhancing the food/dining zone and incorporating urban lifestyle service functions, and will utilize its understanding of the community’s history and values in developing and operating these facilities to improve the area’s appeal for the sake of lasting community promotion and revitalization,.
In addition to planning a phased renewal of the existing SELVA from spring to autumn 2016, the Izumi Chuo Revitalization Council – comprising companies and business operators such as the Sumitomo Corporation Group playing key roles in the Izumi Chuo district – have held repeated discussions on improving the environment in front of Izumi-Chuo Station, with services scheduled to start in autumn 2016 (*see Reference). In addition, the Sendai Cardiovascular Center is intending to relocate to an adjacent lot on the north side of SELVA Terrace and open for business in the next autumn, helping make the area around Izumi-Chuo Station an increasingly important, convenient and attractive location.
Details on the stores that will operate in SELVA Terrace, facility plans and other information will be released as it becomes available.
