Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that its philanthropic organization, the Fluor Foundation, presented \\$1 million to the University of Houston (UH) College of Technology to establish the Fluor-UH Industrial Construction Management Education Partnership, focusing on research and professional development.

An official ceremony was held at the UH Sugar Land campus today that included Fluor Chairman and CEO David Seaton, University of Houston President Renu Khator and other members of Fluor’s senior management team.

The partnership will support implementation of a Work-Integrated Education Program, which will integrate industry-best approaches and project examples into the curriculum. Through the program, students will obtain a unique skill set and perspective by developing solutions to real-world construction challenges in the classroom, gaining valuable industry experience. The partnership marks a signature milestone in the 25-year Fluor-UH relationship.

The grant is the largest in the UH Construction Management program’s history and is a fitting progression of UH and Fluor’s partnership that began in 1991. The UH launched the nation’s first industrial construction management curriculum in 2011, with strong industry involvement and support. Fluor supported development of the curriculum, which specializes in developing construction leadership for heavy industrial projects. Fluor representatives serve on the UH Process & Industrial Construction Management Industry Advisory Board and teach classes in the department.
