Training Launched for Financial Literacy Tutors
OREANDA-NEWS. The Academy of Professional Development and Re-training of Educators under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation in cooperation with Bank of Russia specialists launches tutor trainings for school teachers who will deliver financial literacy lessons.
The first training course is to start on 16 February and to last until 1 March. Tutor training is delivered by the Academy through webinars. The course is developed in compliance with the Federal State Educational Standards (FSES) for the General Education and takes 36 hours. The programme is designed for professional development of school principals and teachers, as well as specialists of continuing vocational education, methodologists, regional and municipal education authorities.
The course includes lectures, webinars, workshops and self-study. The financial literacy takes 25 hours. The rest of the time is dedicated to the methods of teaching the new subject at schools.
Lectures cover the most topical issues: the meaning of financial literacy, drafting personal financial plans, understanding savings and inflation, types of insurance products, specifics of the pension system, identifying financial fraudsters and avoiding financial fraud, protecting rights of financial service consumers, searching for reliable information, etc.
The Bank of Russia has prepared a study pack for tutors and teachers, it consists of a teacher's book, a student's book and teaching guidelines.
The textbooks meet the requirements of the Sample general education programme (approved by the Federal Educational and Methodological Association for General Education (minutes No. 1/15, dated 8 April 2015). For details of the programme, see the Register of sample general education programmes of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science on the website www.fgosreestr.ru. Thereby, schools can already introduce financial literacy lessons for 5th-9th year schoolchildren.
The subject can be taught either within the course of social studies or as a separate lesson. The Ministry of Education and Science expects the educational programmes for 10th-11th year students to be adopted by the end of June.
Tutor trainings are delivered by specialists of education centres licensed by the Bank of Russia for teaching and certifying financial market specialists.
At the end of training, tutors will be certified and those who pass the exams will receive a certificate of qualification for delivering training to school teachers countrywide.
Enrollment for the next course is currently open. These tutor trainings are supposed to be delivered on a regular basis in the years to come.
