OREANDA-NEWS. February 17, 2016. Thyssenkrupp’s damper business is moving to a new site in Bochum. In March around 200 thyssenkrupp Bilstein employees will be relocating from the company’s head office in Ennepetal to a new office building on Herner Strasse in the north of Bochum. The additional site in North Rhine-Westphalia has become necessary due to new orders from automotive customers, with no further space available at the Ennepetal site. The move to Bochum will involve most of the administrative staff of the company’s original equipment division, which is responsible for supplying damper systems to international car manufacturers.

“Our order books are very healthy at the moment. In the next few years our growth will come mainly from new auto industry orders, and we need to be prepared to handle it, including our development and administrative departments. We are delighted that we have now found the right building for this in Bochum. The new site is located ideally between thyssenkrupp’s headquarters in Essen and the head office of the damper business in Ennepetal,” says Peter-Klaus Kirner, CEO of thyssenkrupp’s damper business.

The technical departments together with logistics, quality, project management and sales will be moving to Bochum. All administrative functions of the damper manufacturer’s aftermarket division (around 270 people) will remain in Ennepetal along with production. thyssenkrupp Bilstein is one of the leading producers of damper systems for the international automotive industry. The company employs around 3,000 people worldwide, roughly half of them in Germany.

The damper specialist thyssenkrupp Bilstein is part of thyssenkrupp’s Components Technology business area, which supplies components and systems to customers from the automotive, wind power and general engineering sectors. In North Rhine-Westphalia alone, the business area employs around 3,500 people.

thyssenkrupp is one of the world’s leading suppliers of materials and components to the auto industry. Nine out of ten premium class cars are fitted with components made by the company. One in three trucks feature drive components from thyssenkrupp. In the 2014/2015 fiscal year thyssenkrupp’s sales in the automotive sector came to around 9.8 billion euros. Customers include practically all the big auto manufacturers.

Employing around 29,000 people thyssenkrupp’s Components Technology business area produces high-tech components worldwide for the automotive and machinery sectors. In the auto sector the product range includes assembled camshafts, cylinder head modules with integrated camshafts, crankshafts, steering and damping systems, springs and stabilizers as well as the assembly of axle modules. In the machinery sector thyssenkrupp supplies components for construction equipment, wind turbines and numerous general engineering applications. In fiscal year 2014/2015 the Components Technology business area achieved sales of 6.8 billion euros.
