Subaru signals new XV version with concept at Geneva
The name suggests a new generation of Subaru's XV Crosstrek, a popular small SUV. That name had previously been used as the concept designation before the XV model came out. Last month, Subaru also showed an XV STI Hybrid concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
The teaser image only shows the left front wheel, fascia and grille. The wheel design echoes that of the recent XV STI Hybrid concept, hinting at aggressive performance, while the headlight styling looks similar to that of the recent WRX models, with a square casing. The front skid plate adds a note of Subaru's back country reputation.
From the image, it looks like Subaru is poised to bring its most recent styling language to the XV model. Whether a new architecture or engines are in the offing remains to be seen. Enthusiasts might anticipate an STI version of the Crosstrek, as well, given the aggressive wheel design.
Those who can't wait for a new generation of the XV now can look forward to the XV Crosstrek Special Edition, being unveiled at the Chicago auto show. This just-announced model is based on the high trim 2.0i Premium XV model, and its primary distinction seems to be a unique red exterior and interior.
