OREANDA-NEWS. People from Western Downs can hear leading QGC geologist Zana Williams tackle the mysteries of meteorites in the movies as part of The World Science Festival Brisbane regional program community day on Saturday 13 February.

Zana, who is a QGC development geologist in the Surat Basin, will take to the stage at 10 am on Saturday at the Chinchilla Cultural Centre.

Her entertaining presentation will unravel Hollywood’s view of earth-destroying meteors and the invasion of alien species and discuss the likelihood of these events actually taking place.

Zana said: “It’s a privilege to share real-world examples of the wonders of science with the community.”

“I hope I can have a real impact and inspire young people to have an interest, and possibly further study and a career, in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).”

Zana has worked across the world, has a degree in geological sciences and her doctorate research involved the study of meteorite impact craters.

In her role at QGC, Zana is responsible for building 3D geological models of the Surat Basin which support the safe and efficient planning of natural gas development.

QGC is supporting The World Science Festival Brisbane regional program in Chinchilla as part of our Future Makers partnership with Queensland Museum.

Future Makers aims to create a whole-of-life approach to STEM education by increasing the uptake and performance of STEM subjects and careers.

QGC is helping students succeed in STEM to prepare them to be ready for an ever-increasing range of careers and industries.
