SSE installs 150,000th smart meter
OREANDA-NEWS. SSE has passed another major milestone in its national roll out of smart meters as it installed its 150,000th meter. SSE is making a huge investment in the nation’s energy infrastructure over the coming years as it aims to install more than seven million smart meters right across the country.
Smart meters will provide customers with real time information about how much energy they are using in either units of power or pounds and pence, giving them the ability to make better informed decisions about their energy use. They will also give real time, accurate information to suppliers bringing an end to estimated energy bills.
The smart meters roll out is an enormous, multi-billion pound project that has the potential to transform the energy industry and customer experience. Other smart meter roll outs around the world have shown that the meters can help customers take control of energy use, reduce consumption and keep bills down. They will also open up new possibilities for companies to innovate and develop new, personalised products and services for customers.
The landmark was crossed near Dundee at the home of Will Cavanagh, an SSE customer of four years. Mr Cavanagh was very happy to have received his smart meter and said: “The installation all went well and the SSE engineer explained everything very clearly. Having a smart meter means I don’t need to worry about forgetting to send in meter readings anymore, I’ll get accurate bills automatically.
Sara Jane Asquith, SSE’s Director of Metering and Smart Transformation, welcomed the milestone saying: “It’s fantastic to have now installed more than 150,000 smart meters and we look forward to introducing even more customers, like Mr Cavanagh, to the world of smart in the months and years ahead.
“Smart meters will revolutionise the way that we interact with our customers and present a once in a lifetime opportunity to build customer trust and engagement. It’s critical we get this right for our customers, so we will continue to deliver the roll out with a ‘do it once, do it right’ attitude - starting slowly, learning quickly and ramping up soon after.
“It’s great to see the number of customers gaining Smart meters is increasing every day and, once the national infrastructure is in place later this year, we look forward to being able to offer smart meters to even more of our customers. ”
