Citizens of the Republic of Moldova will soon be able to receive digital terrestrial TV signal
OREANDA-NEWS. February 03, 2016. Around 80 % of the population of the Republic of Moldova will soon be able to receive digital terrestrial TV signal. This will become possible with the launch of the first national multiplex (A) that has the ability to transmit up to 15 TV channels.
The digital terrestrial television advantages are the reception without subscription, through the antenna, in the most areas of the country, including mobile reception of a larger number of TV channels, provides a better quality of picture and sound compared to the analogue television and includes the possibility to receive free HD channels. It also provides signal to the population in less accessible areas.
According to the Report of the Inter-institutional Working Group on the implementation of the transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television for the second semester of the year 2015, the licenses to use frequencies/TV channel for the creation of two multiplexes with national coverage were issued to the State Enterprise “Radiocommunications” through direct entrusting.
The first multiplex already has the ability to cover the majority of the population of the Republic of Moldova with digital terrestrial TV signal. For this reason, several actions to modernize the infrastructure, including the installation of 17 transmitters at the stations of Edinet, Soroca, Trifesti, Mindrestii Noi, Ungheni, Ivancea, Straseni, Hincesti, Chisinau, Causeni, Cimislia, Leova, Comrat, Cahul, Baimaclia, Drochia and Tighina were carried out. In December 2015, the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications introduced the “Guide on the parameters of STB and other digital TV reception modules recommended for use on the territory of the Republic of Moldova”. The document is an informative one and is released as a recommendation on the technical parameters of the electronic devices necessary for digital TV signal reception, being intended for both the technical importing companies and final consumers. At the same time, a series of amendments and additions to the Broadcasting Code, necessary to ensure the legislative framework on the transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television were adopted. Similarly, the Parliament voted in the first reading the Draft law on access to properties and shared use of associated infrastructure of public electronic communications networks, which comes to ensure an efficient use of existing infrastructure and reduce the costs.
Simultaneously, the Ministry of Information Technology and Communication is working on a Government Decision regarding the provision of the disadvantaged families with converters for receiving digital terrestrial television signal to any television, regardless of the year of manufacture.
The Report of the Inter-institutional Working Group on the implementation of the transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television for the second semester is published on the official website of the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications, in the Activity/Activity Reports compartment.
We would like to remind that on January 28 current year, the Broadcasting Coordinating Council announced a public tender for filling the slots available in the national multiplex A, which has the ability to transmit up to 15 channels.
