OREANDA-NEWS. Operators at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant returned Unit 1 to service Wednesday at 6 p.m., ending a brief maintenance outage that began on Monday, Jan. 25. 

During the outage, technicians performed maintenance on the non-nuclear side of the plant to improve efficiency and equipment reliability. This work could not be performed while Unit 1 was online. Unit 2 continued to operate at full power during the Unit 1 outage. 

Calvert Cliffs is located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County and is Maryland’s only nuclear energy facility.  The station is home to two pressurized water reactors capable of generating 1,756 megawatts combined. Units 1 and 2 began commercial operation in 1975 and 1977, respectively.
