Tele2 and Moscow government agree on cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. Tele2, an alternative mobile operator, and the Moscow government have signed an agreement on cooperation in telecom development. A key area of cooperation is providing residents of the region with high-quality and affordable services in 3G and 4G standards.
The agreement has been signed by Tele2 CEO Mikhail Noskov and Maksut Shadayev, Minister of Public Administration, Information Technologies and Communications of Moscow Region.
The agreement is seeking to lay foundation for cooperation between Tele2 and Moscow Region’s government in development of telecom infrastructure, increase in investment into the region’s economy and implementation of social and economic projects. The sides have agreed on drafting and implementing joint programs for effective work in this area.
The investment program implies the Tele2 mobile network rollout in 3G/4G standards on the territory of the Moscow metropolitan area so that residents could use high-quality and affordable services of the newest generation. On its part, the Moscow government will provide the operator with support in information and telecommunications technologies for the further development of mobile service in the region.
The network rollout is one of the key priorities for the Tele2 technical development in the region. Starting from the launch in October 2015, the operator has provided high-quality services to the residents of over 250 residential areas, including 59 major villages of the region. Just over three months the company commissioned new base stations in Moscow Region that accounts for 55% of Tele2’s overall number in the metropolitan area. In 2016 the company will stick to the plan in expanding the 3G/4G network coverage both in the villages and along the key federal thoroughfares.
Mikhail Noskov, CEO at Tele2:
“Last October Tele2 successfully launched operations in Moscow and Moscow Region. Now high-quality services are available to over 90% of the Moscow metropolitan area’s residents, with over 75% of them living in Moscow Region. We continue rolling out the network infrastructure and are planning to invest considerable funds into the further development of the network development. I am sure that while implementing a range of measures named in the agreement we will be able to satisfy fast growing needs in high-quality and affordable mobile services.”
Maksut Shadayev, Minister of Public Administration, Information Technologies and Communications of Moscow Region:
“The government is implementing a number of measures aiming to reduce time needed for finalization and allocation of land plots intended for the operators’ equipment. We are also offering profitable conditions for operators to set up their base stations on the roofs of non-residential buildings. Besides, operators now have one stop service in charge of looking into their queries, processing land lease applications and issuing building license on an expedited basis. It is important to set a full cycle for processing all necessary permissions and documents for less than three months, which will make it possible to provide high-quality mobile services in 3G/4G and offer Moscow residents an additional option for choosing their operator.”
