A high gas content of Karaganda coal basin is laboratory-confirmed
OREANDA-NEWS. By order of head of state since 2015 JSC “KazTransGas” has been executing exploration works on gas production from coal beds in Karaganda Region. Therefore, they carried out scheduled works on drilling on three core mills and four pilot-plant mills.
It should be noted that the development of methane production in coal bed is an absolute new technology of non-traditional and ecologically clean source of hydrocarbon material in Kazakhstan, which shall provide for increase of safety level at coal-producing enterprises, reduction of greenhouse effect at methane outburst to atmosphere and creation of new work places.
Currently they prepared a preliminary report based on core samples by one of world’s certified NCCBM laboratories (PRC). The analysis revealed high gas content indicators in coal beds comprising 26 cubic m per t in average. A profitable gas content shall provide for 15 cubic m per t in the world. The results confirm the perspective development of new fuel-energy field in Kazakhstan as high caloricity of gas will allow supplying gas to settlements and industrial enterprises of Central and Eastern Kazakhstan.
JSC “KazTransGas” also noted that according to results of geological data the most effective innovative gas production technologies will be determined. Currently they performed various methods of intensification on production rate and development of pilot-plant mills. In addition in 2016 it is planned to carry out the extended reach drilling, the calculation of reserves entering on the balance sheet and development of the feasibility study.
