OREANDA-NEWS. January 22, 2016. RAND Europe has named two new members to its Council of Advisors. Carl Bildt, former Swedish prime minister, and A. Michael Hoffman, co-founder of Palamon Capital Partners LLP, a leading mid-market European private equity firm, will join the full Council of Advisors at its late January meeting in Brussels.

The Council of Advisors supports RAND Europe in its mission to help improve policy and decisionmaking through research and analysis.

“Council members provide essential independent guidance, informed by diverse experience and professional distinction. Carl and Michael will offer new insights and complement attributes represented by current members,” said Hans Pung, president of RAND Europe. “Their broad backgrounds in both public service and business will make invaluable contributions to our organisation.”

Bildt served as prime minister of Sweden from 1991 to 1994 and as the country's minister for foreign affairs from 2006 to 2014. His achievements include economic and political reform in Sweden and numerous high-profile diplomatic roles. As an early advocate of new information and communications technologies, Bildt continues to promote the use of social media in international affairs. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the RAND Corporation.

Hoffman's experience in private equity and management consultancy built up over the past 40 years included senior roles at Warburg Pincus LLC and Booz Allen Hamilton. He served on numerous boards of academic, cultural and performing arts organisations in the UK and US. Hoffman is an active member of the Council on Foreign Relations and Chatham House, and for the past four years has been chairman and president of the American Academy in Berlin.

The RAND Europe Council of Advisors is chaired by Michael D. Rich, president and CEO of the RAND Corporation.
