OREANDA-NEWS. January 21, 2016. Address the growing urban water management challenges in Africa, and examining the entire water cycle, as well as the reconsideration of the way water and wastewater is used and reused, is the motivation for the next capacity-building event being organized by the African Water Facility (AWF) in collaboration with the Global Water Partnership (GWP). The Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM) approach will be analyzed from different angles with a focus on its principles and benefits, with a better understanding of how water sources, water supply, sanitation, wastewater, storm water and solid waste interact with one another.

The workshop, taking place from January 25-28, 2016 at the Bank’s headquarters in Abidjan, will attract participation of about 25 professionals from AWF, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and GWP. The workshop covers a complete program with experts’ interventions, interactive presentations and group exercises.

This IUWM Workshop will be drawing on the experience gathered with the African Water Facility in IUWM appraisal missions conducted in Kinshasa (DR Congo) and in Marondera (Zimbabwe) as well as on an IUWM toolkit recently developed by GWP in collaboration with the University of South Florida and the Water Partnership Program of the World Bank. At the end of this event, participants will have relevant tools for better assessment and monitoring of projects.
