OREANDA-NEWS. Tele2, an alternative mobile operator, has summed up roaming results over New Year holidays. The company has registered a considerable increase in mobile data in international and national roaming compared to last year’s winter holidays.

During New Year holidays, Tele2 subscribers used mobile services in over 150 countries of the world.  Most wanted holiday destinations were Kazakhstan, Finland, Belarus, Ukraine, Germany and Thailand. Apart from favorite tourist destinations, Tele2 subscribers also travelled to long-haul getaways such as Cote d’Ivoire, Guatemala, Bahrain, Papua New Guinea, Panama and Mozambique.

Between 31 December 2015 and 10 January 2016, the number of calls and SMS in international roaming stayed flat compared to the same period last year.  However, mobile Internet traffic consumed by Tele2 clients abroad increased by 150%.

Tele2 has also noted a sharp growth of mobile activity in national roaming. Thus, the number of calls increased more than 17% compared to winter holidays last year whereas data consumption surged 38-fold.

A skyrocketing increase in Internet traffic in national roaming is explained by the following fact: starting from May 2015 Tele2 clients may use wireless Internet in various corners of the country at their home tariffs. Besides, in 2015 the operator has considerably expanded the area of use – the service of high-speed wireless Internet is now available in 60 Russian regions.
