OREANDA-NEWS. January 18, 2016. DDD Group plc (AIM: DDD, OTCQX: DDDGY, the 'Company', 'DDD'), the advanced imaging and 3D solutions company, announces that it has been granted a new US patent that expands the scope of DDD's international patent library to include High Dynamic Range ('HDR') video signal coding and rendering.

The new patent (Application 14/626,247) was filed in February 2015 and describes a process of encoding and decoding video signals such that the signal may be viewed on a conventional consumer display while also being capable of being viewed on the latest generation of HDR/wide colour gamut ('WCG') displays that are now being introduced to the consumer television market.

At the International Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas earlier this month, a number of leading television manufacturers were demonstrating the latest TVs with HDR capabilities. HDR significantly expands the range of contrast and color that the display can present. Bright parts of the image become much livelier, so the image seems to have more "depth". Colors are expanded to show much brighter primary colors including every color in between to make richer and more realistic images.

Chris Yewdall, DDD's Chief Executive Officer said:

"The latest patent further expands the licensing assets of the Company. We believe HDR will be an important opportunity in the television market since consumer reaction to the picture quality of an HDR display is stronger than it has been to the higher resolution 4K/UHD TVs demonstrating that better pixels are more important than more pixels."
