OREANDA-NEWS. January 18, 2016. The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) have formed a partnership to facilitate the uptake of marine science to inform sustainable and effective management of the marine environment.

NERC is the primary public funding source for environmental science in the UK. It funds excellent science and promotes the practical application of scientific outputs to create high impact outcomes. The MMO’s work with NERC in the past year has resulted in the Council advertising the opportunity to secure funding for a Knowledge Exchange Fellowship. This Fellowship will review current and recently completed scientific research and consider how this could be used within existing practice to further effective management of the marine environment.

Dr Dickon Howell, Chief Scientific Advisor at the MMO commented:

“I want to take this opportunity to thank NERC for working with us on this fellowship. We are absolutely delighted that they have recognised the value of marine science to marine management by investing in this endeavour. This is a great success for the MMO as it will allow us to access some of the multimillion pounds of scientific research that has been carried out in the academic community, both in the UK and beyond”.
