1991 Open Data Incubator - first non-profit IT-project incubator launched in Ukraine basing on open and big data
OREANDA-NEWS. January 15, 2016. With the support of the Prime Minister and the Government of Ukraine there has been launched 1991 Open Data Incubator project – Ukraine's first non-profit incubator of IT projects based on open public data.
The project aims to transform large volumes of open government data in the resource to create startup companies that provide services to Ukrainian citizens, other companies and government authorities.
The project was designed to "digitize" such sectors as agribusiness, energy, infrastructure projects, public services for citizens and to create internal analytical systems in the country, thus maintaining interaction between the IT developers, public organizations and analytical centers with state government bodies.
According to Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Gursky, back in 1991 Ukraine gained independence, so it was taken as the title of the incubator. Apart from that today an important resource have become the data that public authorities have systematically collected and stored in the last 24 years.
Becoming a member of the incubator, the startups will have the opportunity to work on their project in A-class office in the centre of Kyiv, have a direct contact with the state structures of all levels, have a chance to undergo a free two-month incubation program, take advantage of the technological support with the Microsoft Bizspark program, to get access to the best mentors, sponsors and investors and also to attract attention of Ukrainian and foreign media.
The first residents of the incubator will be the winners of the hackathon, which will take place on 6th February 2016 in Kyiv. To participate in the competition are welcomed projects that want to build a startup that solves important problems of Ukrainian citizens, business and public authorities using open government and big data:
- Industry solutions for agribusiness, energy and infrastructure;
- E-government services based on public registers;
- Analytical systems for ministries, regional administrations and municipalities;
- Smart City projects for Ukrainian cities.
To participate in the contest, please fill in the form on the website www.1991.vc, deadline February 3, 2016.
The project is managed by the public organization SocialBoost with the support of Western NIS Enterprise Fund.
