API taps Lowcountry native Bonnie Loomis to lead South Carolina Petroleum Council
OREANDA-NEWS. The American Petroleum Institute (API) today announced Bonnie Loomis as the new executive director of the South Carolina Petroleum Council (SCPC).
“Bonnie Loomis joins the council at a critical moment in South Carolina’s energy history and will help advance the oil and natural gas industry’s mission to grow jobs and strengthen the economy in the state,” said API Senior Director of State Government Relations Rolf Hanson. “The majority of South Carolinians support development of offshore oil and natural gas resources, and the state has a unique opportunity to create thousands of jobs and add billions in additional state revenue.”
Ms. Loomis joins SCPC with more than 20 years’ experience in and around South Carolina government. A South Carolina native raised in Charleston county, Ms. Loomis most recently was an independent lobbyist working primarily on issues related to energy and the environment at both the South Carolina General Assembly and the South Carolina Public Service Commission.
“Having grown up in the Lowcountry, I cherish our natural resources and am thrilled to join API at this exciting and dynamic point in our state’s energy policy history,” Bonnie Loomis said. “Through thoughtful pro-energy policies, South Carolina’s tourism, military, commercial and recreational offshore activities can coexist with the good-paying jobs and increased tax revenue that will come from offshore energy activity.”
Ms. Loomis is a licensed member of the South Carolina bar, and a cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the USC Honors College (Bachelor of Arts-Government & International Studies with a media concentration) and School of Law (Juris Doctorate).
SCPC is a division of API, which represents all facets of the oil and natural gas industry, which supports 9.8 million U.S. jobs and 8 percent of the U.S. economy. API’s more than 650 members include large integrated companies, as well as exploration and production, refining, marketing, pipeline, and marine businesses, and service and supply firms. They provide most of the nation’s energy and are backed by a growing grassroots movement of more than 30 million Americans.
