Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Sales in Italy: December and Full Year 2015
OREANDA-NEWS. FCA posted December sales in Italy up 27.1%, significantly outperforming the industry average of 18.65% and boosting market share to 29.5%. The new Fiat Tipo made a very positive contribution. For the full year, Group sales were up 18.3% (+15.75% for the industry) to 446,000 units and market share was 60 basis points higher at 28.3%. Fiat brand sales in Italy increased 16.85% and market share was 20 basis points higher at 20.9%. Jeep set another annual record with sales up 163.9% over the prior year. Group models took the top four positions for the year, with a total of six models (Fiat Panda, Fiat Punto, Lancia Ypsilon, Fiat 500L, Fiat 500 and Fiat 500X) ranking in the top ten.
FCA closed December 2015 with sales in Italy of more than 32,000 vehicles. This 27.1% year-over-year increase, which was significantly higher than the industry average, drove market share 200 basis points higher to 29.5%. For the full year, the Group’s Italian sales were up 18.3% to 446.000 vehicles, with market share 60 basis points higher at 28.3%. Four FCA models (Fiat Panda, Fiat Punto, Lancia Ypsilon and Fiat 500L) took the top four positions for the year.
Fiat brand also outperformed the industry average, with December sales up 32.8% to 23,400 vehicles and market share 230 basis points higher at 21.4%. The brand’s full-year sales were up 16.85% to more than 329,000 vehicles and market share increased 20 basis points to 20.9%.
The Fiat Panda retained its crown as the most popular car in Italy, with nearly 8,900 vehicles sold in December (46.3% A-segment share) and more than 126,300 vehicles sold for the year (43.8% A-segment share). The new Fiat Tipo has already proven very popular with more than 4,000 customer orders received in just 3 weeks. The 500 family also continued to register gains in 2015. The 500L has established itself as one of the most popular models in Italy and it continues to lead the Small MPV segment, with a 60.4% share in December and a 57.1% share for the year. The 500X is also leader in its segment (Small SUV) with more than 3,800 vehicles sold in December (25.7% segment share) and 32,500 vehicles sold for the year (18.2% segment share). The 500 remains one of the most popular A-segment models. In December, the Panda and the 500 held a combined 62.0% share of the Italian A segment.
The Fiat brand was well represented in the rankings with a total of four models in the top ten in December (Panda - first, 500X - third, 500L - fourth, and 500 - sixth) and five for the full year (Panda - first, Punto - second, 500L - fourth, 500 - sixth, and 500X - tenth).
Lancia posted December sales of 4,200 vehicles, accounting for a 3.8% share of the market. For the full year, brand sales totaled 56,400 vehicles with market share at 3.6%.
Ypsilon closed the year on a high note, ranking as number one in the В segment for the month of December (13.7% share) with 4,200 vehicles sold.
Alfa Romeo posted December sales of more than 2,100 vehicles, representing a 1.9% market share. For the year, brand sales totaled 30,500 vehicles and market share was 1.9%.
The Giulietta continued as one of the most popular vehicles in the Italian C segment throughout 2015 and it posted an 11.9% segment share in December.
Jeep posted another strong monthly performance in December with nearly 2,500 vehicles sold and market share at 2.25%. For the year, brand sales were up 163.9% to nearly 30,000 units and market share was 110 basis points higher at 1.9%. The brand posted its all-time b annual sales performance in Italy, with 2015 sales nearly triple the prior year’s record level.
This result was driven by demand for the Jeep Renegade, which registered strong sales growth throughout the year and established itself as one of the most popular vehicles in the Small SUV segment. The Renegade closed the year with more than 23,000 units sold and a 12.9% segment share.
