OREANDA-NEWS. Contractors for Highways England will be replacing the bridge barriers and will require a full closure of the A64 in both directions for 5 nights starting tonight to install narrow lanes and protective barriers.

A 50mph speed limit will also be in place between Askham Bar and Fulford junctions, for around 3 miles during the day until this work is complete.

Highways England service delivery team leader Roger Wantling said:

Following a meeting with the City of York Council officers we have both agreed to continue with the work as planned at Bishopthorpe as this is essential maintenance work that needs to take place.

Our work on the A64 near Tadcaster continues to be postponed following flooding in the town while we continue discussions with local stakeholders.

From March work will start on the replacement of the main expansion joint on the eastbound carriageway at Bishopthorpe. This work will be carried out overnight and will require full overnight closures of the eastbound carriageway between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday. The project is due to be completed in May.

During this work the speed limit will be reduced to 30mph on the eastbound carriageway across the bridge during the day.

During the closures traffic wanting to travel to Scarborough or Leeds can follow a diversion along the northern outer ring road (A1237). Local traffic can follow the A1036 Tadcaster Road to the A19 Fishergate and then back on to the A64.
