New compact vans Volkswagen and BMW won’t come to Russian market
OREANDA-NEWS. German companies Volkswagen and BMW abandoned plans to sell in Russia compact vans BMW of second series and Volkswagen Touran of the second generation. Cars of this class are usually in low demand in the Russian market: if we don’t take into account the utilitarian LADA Largus, for ten months of this year, it was sold only 3423 compact vans of twelve models (it's 0.3% market share), among which it is on sale only five models. Given the current exchange rates and the costs of certification (only the price of system ERA-GLONASS is high), sale prices of the new models will be inhuman, sales will be isolated, and at the end - only loss, says "Auto Review".
In Germany, Volkswagen Touran costs at least 23,350 euros (or 1.8 million rubles at current exchange rate) for the "empty" version with a turbo engine 1.2 TSI (110 hp) and manual transmission. The front-drive BMW 216i Active Tourer (1,5 l, 102 hp) is more expensive - from 25,900 euros, so 1.99 million rubles, and, for example, the extended seven-seat BMW 218i Gran Tourer (1,5 l, 136 hp) with "automatic" transmission should cost at least 30,600 euros - or 2.35 million rubles.
By the way, the main competitor of one-volume BMW car, Mercedes of B-Class is sold in Russia, but the certification was carried out for a long time, and under the old rules. And these cars are sold in Russia almost at a loss: prices start from 1.45 million rubles for the B version 180 (1.6 liters, 122 hp), while in Germany a similar mono cab costs not less than 27,460 euros (2.11 million rubles). During the ten months of this year in Russia it was bought 631 B-Class. And for eleven years it was bought about 10 thousand cars of two generations. By the way, the more affordable Volkswagen Touran was not more popular: 11 thousand cars for twelve years.
