OREANDA-NEWS. A new directional exit overpass (Exit 1) of the traffic interchange at the intersection of the Moscow Ring Road (MRR) and Mozhaiskoye Avenue, linking the MRR with the Moscow region, has been opened to traffic. Construction of the overpass was the final stage of an extensive upgrade of one of MRR’s biggest traffic interchanges. Commissioned by the Department of Construction of the City of Moscow and carried out by Mostotrest, the reconstruction project has significantly increased throughput capacity of the interchange and improved the traffic situation on the MRR, Mozhaiskoye Avenue and Minskoye Avenue.

The new two-lane overpass with a total length of 600 m channels direct Moscow Region-bound traffic from the inner MRR onto Mozhaiskoye Avenue, over the existing cloverleaf interchange. In addition, as part of the final stage of the reconstruction project, Mostotrest completed construction of new and reconstruction of existing directional left- and right turn exits, side driveways, acceleration and deceleration lanes, rearrangement of utilities, construction of an elevated pedestrian crossing over the MRR and two pedestrian underpasses on Mozhaiskoye Avenue in Moscow and the Moscow region.

Reconstruction of the traffic interchange at the intersection of the MRR and Mozhaiskoye Avenue was launched in September 2013 and envisioned phased commissioning of overpasses, exits and crossovers as completed. In August 2014, Exit 5 overpass was opened to traffic, enabling exit from the inner MRR toward the city center, as well as Exits 7 and 10, channeling Moscow region-bound traffic from the inner MRR onto Mozhaiskoye Avenue, and from Mozhaiskoye Avenue onto the inner MRR. In October 2014, an overpass, a crossover and the Mozhaiskoye Avenue Relief Road were opened to traffic, connecting the outer MRR with Mozhaiskoye Avenue (center-bound) and enabling a U-turn toward the inner MRR and center-bound traffic from the region via the newly built Mozhaiskoye Avenue Relief Road. As of mid-2015, motorists have been able to get directly onto the Moscow region-bound Mozhaiskoye Avenue from the outer MRR via the new overpass of Exit 6. As part of the project, Mostotrest has built a total of four directional exit overpasses and two crossovers, as well as built twelve new and rebuilt five existing directional left- and right turn exits.

The project was implemented under a government contract for construction and reconstruction of transport infrastructure of the City of Moscow, in particular, development of transport links with the Skolkovo Innovation Center. The contract envisioning phased construction was signed between the Department of Construction of the City of Moscow and Mostotrest in October 2012.
