OREANDA-NEWS. December 23, 2015. IRU addressed the European Parliament Transport & Tourism Committee during an exchange of views it had organised on new taxi service providers, which include Transport Network Companies (TNC).

Michael Nielsen, who heads IRU’s work in the EU, called for a clear distinction between the real sharing economy and those companies that simply use technology platforms, but operate solely to maximise profit while having full control over drivers. He highlighted the need for a level competitive playing field amongst all actors providing similar services and for all to be governed by the same rules.

IRU’s Global Taxi Network was showcased as a best practice example of innovation in the taxi sector. It was stressed how the IRU-run global alliance of legal taxi providers offer customers easy access to their services through innovative smart phone apps while driving improved service standards globally.
