Lockheed Martin and Its Employees Make the Difference in the Community
OREANDA-NEWS. December 23, 2015. Fighting disease, inspiring students to become future leaders in innovation, providing needs to the community and beautifying the Trinity River waterfront are examples of the outreach of Lockheed Martin employees throughout the greater Dallas/Fort Worth community in 2015.
This year, employees joined together to support special events focusing on health issues faced by our workforce and community – American Heart Association’s Heart Walk, American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure and the Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run. A total of 1,688 employees participated in the four events raising more than \\$272,000 for disease prevention.
Putting their education and passion for influencing our next generation through our STEM outreach, 308 employees were mobilized through Engineers in the Classroom serving as Ambassadors going into schools, leading the Lockheed Martin Code Quest computer programming competition for high school students and serving as host champions for the TAME (Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering) annual math and science competition.
Service to military members, their families and veterans continues to be a key component in the daily lives of Lockheed Martin employees. The Veterans Employee Resource Group took on Memorial and Veteran Day celebrations. A gift of \\$315,000 to the United Way of Tarrant County for a Veterans Fund underwrites programs to assist with employment and training, legal services, mental health counseling and other services to provide for military members and their families as they transition into civilian life. We will wrap up 2015 with Lockheed Martin’s sponsorship of the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 29 at TCU Amon Carter Stadium, billed as “more than a bowl game,” emphasizing its direct support to those in uniform.
Lockheed Martin employees in Fort Worth and Grand Prairie recorded nearly 61,000 volunteer hours in 2015, and gave more than \\$2.3 million to local agencies during the corporation’s annual giving campaign. When combined with more than \\$2.2 million in company philanthropy, the monetary impact helps make a difference throughout North Texas.
