Newbuilding LNG Carrier for Osaka Gas Named LNG SATURN
OREANDA-NEWS. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) announced that the naming ceremony for the newbuilding liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier for Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. and Kyushu Power Co., Inc., which was ordered by its wholly-owned subsidiary, was held at the Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.
Among the many guests on hand were Osaka Gas Representative Director and President Honjo, named the vessel the LNG SATURN, and his wife cut the rope.
The vessel will serve to transport LNG that Osaka Gas and Kyushu Power mainly purchase from Australia Ichthys LNG project. This marks the first time that an LNG carrier wholly owned by a Japanese shipping company will serve on joint transport for electric power and gas companies in Japan.
As it moves toward the goal of "Solid growth through innovative changes" as set forth in the midterm management plan "STEER FOR 2020," MOL takes advantage of the experience, know-how, and network it has built up over the years as one of the world's largest LNG carrier owners and operators to precisely meet the LNG procurement needs of its customers, including Japanese power and gas utilities, and provide transport service matched in safety, reliability, and efficiency.
