Doosan Acquires Project in South African Power Market
Located 260km northeast of the Botswanan capital Gaborone, Morupule A thermal power plant has a capacity of 132MW (33MW X 4 units). The aged power plant’s operation has been suspended in 2012, since it came online in 1986.
Doosan will replace, repair or overhaul the plant equipment and improve the air quality control of the station. When the project reaches its completion which is scheduled for two years, the renewed power station will be capable to supply power for Botswana with higher consistency and reliability.
“Through efforts to expand and diversify our markets, we have made inroads into new markets including Botswana this year. We will continue to strive to help deliver more power in South Africa, serving our customers with advanced power solutions and services,” said Heung gweon Park, CEO of Doosan’s Turbine/Power Generator BG.
The International Energy Agency expects the power output in Sub-Saharan Africa to grow rapidly from the current 90GW to 385GW by 2040.
