OREANDA-NEWS. Sberbank has joined the Mir payment system (Mir PS). The bank intends to participate in issuing and providing acquiring services for Mir bank cards.

"As the largest issuer of bank cards in Russia, it is for us vital to be able to provide Mir bank cards to clients alongside our other card products. At the same time, Sberbank clients can continue to select the products that suit them best. In 2016 we will launch a project to issue Mir-branded cards and service them at our cash machines and acquiring network," commented Alexander Torbakhov, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of Sberbank.

"Russia's largest bank joining the Mir system is a landmark event for this national project. The broad network of cash machines and points of sale serviced by Sberbank mean that it will be possible to use Mir cards all over the country. The largest individual client base in Russia will serve as the foundation for mass issue of national payment instruments," commented Vladimir Komlev, CEO of NPCS JSC.

Mir national payment system is operated by National Payment Card System Joint-Stock Company (NPCS).
