OREANDA-NEWS. Fitch Ratings says in a presentation that it has revised its 2016 sector outlook for global shipping to negative from stable for 2015. The sector outlook remains stable for EMEA airlines.

The negative sector outlook for global shipping is due to our expectations that weaker demand from slowing global trade and the economic slowdown in emerging markets will exacerbate overcapacity, leading to declining and volatile freight rates.

However, we anticipate that performance will vary across the segments, with tanker and LNG shipping performing soundly and dry-bulk and container shipping remaining under pressure.

The 2016 sector outlook for EMEA airlines remains stable due to expected steady growth in air travel demand, including business travel supported by a forecast pick-up in economic recovery, and disciplined capacity growth by European legacy air carriers.

The operating environment will remain challenging due to fierce competition and continuous significant capacity expansion by Gulf airlines, low-cost carriers and Turkish Airlines.
