OREANDA-NEWS. Again this year, the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) Group is participating in the “Xmas Cards from Friends around the World” project as part of its activities to support recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami disaster. The project was launched and is operated by Takuo Tanaka, Professor Emeritus of Chuo University, calling for Christmas cards to be sent to children who were victims of the 2011 tragedy. In its first four years a total of 85,000 cards were received and delivered.

The MHI Group put out a call to employees and their family members at all Company bases, and as of December 11 a total of 394 cards were collected. The accompanying photos show just a partial sampling. In response, we received the following message of appreciation from Professor Tanaka: “Each and every card that so many of you kindly wrote will be delivered directly to the children in the disaster region. Thanks to you all, smiles of happiness will bloom ever brighter in the affected areas, making for a wonderful scene. I appreciate the warm feelings in your hearts for the children in the disaster zones.” Four years and nine months have now passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami, and the people in the disaster regions are pulling together and moving ahead toward recovery. Going forward, the MHI Group will continue its activities of support. The Project office will continue to accept Holiday cards -Christmas or New Years cards - through mid-January.
