OREANDA-NEWS. December 11, 2015. Walmart Foundation today donated \\$25,000 to CJE SeniorLife (CJE) to fund the organization’s Home-Delivered Meals Program (HDM), which delivered over 89,000 meals in FY 2014.

“Thanks to Walmart’s generous support, CJE’s Home-Delivered Meals program has been able to serve even more older adults in need, including those living in Northfield and New Trier through the program’s recent service expansion. The funding has helped defray the costs of delivering nutritious meals to a vulnerable population across the greater metropolitan Chicago area.”

HDM’s main goal is to meet the nutritional needs of frail, homebound, low-income older adults in Chicago, Evanston, Skokie, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka, Glencoe, Northfield and Glenview, helping them to maintain their independence for as long as possible while remaining connected to the community. HDM is one of the many ways that CJE helps older adults live in their homes for as long as possible.

The grant was presented to Mark Weiner, CJE President & CEO and Ted Starcevich, Manager of the HDM Program, by Michelle Caraballo, Walmart’s Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations for the region, at Walmart’s Skokie store.

“We are proud to support CJE SeniorLife in their efforts to help senior citizens live better,” said Caraballo. “Groups like CJE are integral to supporting older adults and helping meet their changing needs.”

For over 40 years, CJE SeniorLife has been helping older adults pursue lives of meaning, independence and good health through a myriad of programs and services including independent housing, assisted living, home delivered meals, transportation, long and short-term skilled nursing care, adult day services, geriatric care management, health and wellness activities, support groups for clients and caregivers, and numerous lifelong learning opportunities.

The Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program supports organizations that create opportunities so people can live better, awarding grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the U.S. To be considered for support, prospective grantee organizations must submit applications through the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program’s online grant application.  Applicants must have a current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in order to meet the program’s minimum eligibility criteria.  Additional information about the program’s funding guidelines and application process are available online at www.walmartfoundation.org/stategiving.
