Rosatom presented photo exhibition on the basics of nuclear energy in Ishwardi (Bangladesh)
The formal opening of the photo exhibition was attended by representatives of administrative authorities of the district of Iswardi and the province of Pabna, experts, representatives of the scientific community, as well as students and journalists.
The exhibition presents 30 photos which illustrate the full cycle of nuclear energy production from mining and enrichment of uranium to nuclear power plant construction, fuel loading into the reactor and electricity generation. The exhibition also includes photographs of the Rooppur NPP construction site.
In the opening speech representatives of the local administration noted the importance of cooperation with the local population on nuclear issues, especially in the area of Rooppur NPP construction, and advised the organizers to conduct more social events in Pabna and Ishwardi. Representative of the Ishwardi district administration Mr. Shakil Mahmud, member of the Pabna region community Swapan Kumar Kundu and other officials participated in the opening ceremony.
The exhibition opened in the atrium of the institute and will last till December 20. Starting from December 21, it will be on display in the Ishwardi press club. Up to 500 people are expected to visit the exhibition.
In November 2011 Moscow and Dhaka signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the construction of the first NPP in Bangladesh. The place for the construction of the NPP that received the name Rooppur, was chosen on the east bank of the river Ganges in the Pabna district, which is 160 km North-West from Dhaka. It is planned that Russia will design, construct and commission two power units with VVER reactors with capacity of 1,200 MW each.
