OREANDA-NEWS. Hitachi, Ltd. and Hitachi Elevator Asia Pte Ltd, which is the supervising company for Hitachi's elevators & escalators business in Southeast Asia, India, and the Middle East today announced that they have been awarded an order for a total of 63 units, including 32 units of elevators & 31 units of escalators for elevated stations of Urban Railway Line 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, which is the first urban railway in Vietnam. In Vietnam, the order is the largest ever for Hitachi and is the first order of Hitachi escalators.
In Vietnam, the rapid increase in traffic volumes resulting from economic growth has become a serious issue, and public transportation is expected to contribute to resolving traffic congestion and protecting the environment. Under this circumstance, the Vietnamese government has made plans for the construction of several urban railways in Ho Chi Minh City. This project represents the first phase of these plans. Hereafter, Vietnam's economic growth driven by Ho Chi Minh is expected to accelerate further and demand for elevators & escalators is expected to continue rising along with the construction of several urban railways.
The order received by Hitachi for 32 units of elevators & 31 units of escalators made in Japan is for 11 elevated stations in elevated zone of 17.5 km within a total length of 19.7 km of Urban Railway Line 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, and the elevators & escalators are scheduled to be delivered in 2017.
Hitachi has been conducting elevators and escalators business in Vietnam since it entered a distributorship agreement with Thang Uy Trading Co., Ltd, in August 2009 and has provided 64 units of elevators in total mainly for small and middle scale of buildings. Hitachi has been focusing on expanding elevators & escalators business in Southeast Asia including Vietnam, and has also established Hitachi Elevator (Myanmar) Co., Ltd. for sales and services of elevators and escalators in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in July 2015.
Taking advantage of the order, Hitachi will continue its sales activities for other urban railways being planned in Vietnam, and will strengthen the global rollout of Social Innovation Business and expand its elevators & escalators business in Southeast Asia market.
