OREANDA-NEWS. December 09, 2015. A Ford engineer is featured in a PBS Kids special segment showcasing role models

Heather Flores, a lighting engineer, will be featured in a one-minute segment discussing how her childhood dreams led to her career as an engineer. The segment showcases Flores in the lighting lab working with the Ford Edge and in the virtual engineering lab working with the Ford Mustang.

“It felt like such an incredible honor,” Flores said. “I grew up as a PBS kid and programs like ‘Sesame Street’ and ‘Mister. Rogers’ Neighborhood’ were very formative for me growing up. Being able to give back and be part of the tradition for a whole new generation of kids was just awesome.”

Flores said she had a particular message she wanted to convey to the next generation of engineers.

“Engineering is solving interesting problems with people you enjoy working with,” she said, “and a healthy sense of curiosity and wonder is really what drives new solutions.”

Other careers featured in the spots are astronomer, doctor, paleontologist and musician.
